Our nurse counsellors provide free, anonymous and confidential HIV antibody testing service for the clients. The service takes about an hour and includes HIV risk behavioural assessment, counselling and psychological support. After assessment, the nurse counsellor will take blood for appropriate tests, including:
-
Rapid HIV antibody test: sampling a small droplet of blood by fingerprick and the result will be available in 20 minutes.
-
Conventional tests of HIV and Syphilis: approximate 10 ml of venous blood will be taken and sent to laboratory for confirmation; the result will be available after 10 days.
Note
-
No need to fast (skip meals) prior to blood taking.
-
If the test is performed within 3 months of suspected exposure, i.e. the window period, HIV antibody may not have reached a detectable level and a repeat test is required.
-
Taking high dose (10 mg or more per day) of biotin may affect many laboratory test results. If you are taking dietary supplements containing, please stop taking it 48 hours before the test. For details, please refer to Precautions.
